About Philip Payne

Philip Payne Limited was established in 1968 and since this time has provided specialist and bespoke lighting products from a number locations in the Solihull area as it has steadily grown.

In more recent years the Company has focused on the quality end of the market forging strong relationships with many leading Architectural and Building Services Engineering practices resulting in the supply of product to many of the UK’s most iconic building projects often designing product specifically for individual projects.


After initially securing ISO9002 registered firm status in June 2000, Philip Payne went on to achieve transfer to ISO9001 in December 2003. In the intervening period membership was also accepted to The Lighting Industry Federation and Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting which as from 2012 is known as the Lighting Industry Association. Both organisations boast a membership of the leading British and European Lighting Companies shaping innovations in areas of technology, safety and the environment.

In 2006 Philip Payne moved to its current location -Thornhill House where investments continue to ensure that we can continue to produce a range that boasts unrivalled flexibility and quality.

In 2013 Payne achieved BSI Kitemark status for both  Super7 and Architectural ranges which it is hoped will assist in the pursuit of overseas markets

The Philip Payne range of products has grown considerably from modest beginnings, developing ground-breaking systems with the support of our affiliated partners. In today’s world energy efficiency is one of the key drivers of development – Philip Payne is committed to use the latest technology including state of the art efficient battery-charging modules, High BLF and most recently LED product .


Digital control systems continue to push the boundaries in Lighting Design with spectacular effects achievable on building exteriors as well as controlling the switching of internal lighting products by presence detection and daylight linking .
This technology can been extended to safety products such as emergency lighting with DALI technology now available in most Philip Payne Products including our unequalled central testing system- SPECTOWEB  which communicates via mobile phone technology (GSM) to provide web based and E Mail reporting.
